British Electromobile Company Ltd. , previously British & Foreign Electric Vehicle Company Ltd. , was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company British & Foreign Electric Vehicle Company Ltd. was founded in 1900 in the London borough of Lambeth . The import of electric cars from Compagnie Parisienne des Voitures Électriques Système Kriéger began, offered as BEC and Powerful . In November 1900 the name was changed to British Electromobile Company Ltd. In 1902 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Electromobile . Production ended between 1908 and 1911. From 1908 vehicles were sold by Opel . In March 1914 the company went into extrajudicial liquidation . In 1919 the last vehicle was built under the brand name Elmo .

The company made electric cars. Greenwood & Batley from Leeds often supplied the chassis , there were 303 in total. The first fifty vehicles had the electric motor in the rear and solid rubber tires. Various body manufacturers from London and Gloucester such as Gloucester Railway Carriage & Waggon Company Ltd. made the bodies . In 1908 20 taxis were built for London.

The 1919 prototype was presented at the Olympia Show . TH Gill from Paddington made the body. The price was set at £ 1,050 for the vehicle, £ 250 for the batteries and £ 42 for the tires.
