Buckingham Engineering

The Buckingham Engineering Company Ltd. was a British manufacturer of cycle cars in Coventry (Warwickshire) . She produced the Chota between 1912 and 1913 . From September 1913 the Cyclecars were called Buckingham and were manufactured until 1923.

history

The first cars were a cycle car with a displacement of 729 cm³ and a light vehicle with a V2 engine which had a displacement of 1459 cm³. The water-cooled engines were Buckingham's own designs and, as mentioned above, the cars were initially sold as Chota.

The production of the vehicles was stopped during the First World War and the owner, Captain Buckingham, made a name for himself during the war as the inventor of tracer ammunition , which was used against airships .

In 1920 he returned to automobile production and brought out a new model with an air-cooled version of the V-engine used before the war, but which had a displacement of 1096 cm³, a two-speed gearbox and belt drive to the rear axle. From 1922 there was a three-speed gearbox, a cardan shaft and a rear axle with differential. The front axle was provided with a transverse leaf spring and the rear axle hung on quarter-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The two-seater superstructures were supplied by the cartwright Charlesworth .

The coupé version of this vehicle was called the Palace .

The vehicles were manufactured by Alvis from 1922 to 1923 , but only about 30 are said to have been built during this time.
