Bridgwater Motor Company was a British distributor and manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company emerged from Harry Carver's Cycle Works , founded in East Quay in 1887 . In 1900 the repair of motorcycles and automobiles began. In 1902 the distribution of vehicles of the brands De Dion-Bouton and MMC was added. In 1904 the company moved to Eastover near Bridgwater . The production of own automobiles ran from 1905 to 1908. The brand name was Bridgwater . A total of eleven or twelve vehicles were built. Another source lists exactly eleven vehicles. The company existed as a dealer for Austin and Renault until 1994.

The vehicles are based on chassis from Malicet & Blin . Built-in motors were purchased from Établissements Ballot and White & Poppe . One source names the models 16/20 HP and 24/30 HP with ballot motors as well as 12 HP and 14 HP . All engines were four-cylinder engines with a T-head . Raworth & Co. manufactured the bodies from the same location.
