The Elswick Motor Co. was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Newcastle upon Tyne company started producing automobiles in 1903. The brand name was initially Elswick , from 1906 SPQR . Production ended in 1907. Hooper Cycle Co. took over the company in 1912.

The range offered cars of different sizes with built-in motors from different manufacturers.

The 6 HP was introduced in 1903 and manufactured until at least 1906. He had a single cylinder engine of De Dion-Bouton with 700 cc displacement.

In 1904 the 20 HP with a four-cylinder engine from Brouhot and the 24 HP with a four-cylinder engine from Mutel added to the range. The latter model had a front engine , three-speed gearbox and cardan drive to the rear axle.

In 1906 the models 15/20 HP and 24/30 HP or 26/30 HP appeared as SPQR , both with four-cylinder engines.

One source also mentions a 26/30 HP with a six-cylinder in - line engine .
