Payne & Bates was a British manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
Samuel Walter Payne and George Bates founded the company in Coventry in 1897 and began producing automobiles in 1898. The brand name was Godiva . In addition, between 1901 and 1902 vehicles were delivered to RM Wright in Lincoln , who marketed them as Stonebow . Production ended in 1902.

The first model was the 9 HP , which was available until 1901. It was equipped with a two-cylinder engine. The Dos-à-dos body shape offered space for four people who sat back to back. In 1901 the new models 7 HP , 9 HP , 14 HP and 25 HP with two-cylinder and four-cylinder engines came onto the market.
A vehicle of this make can be viewed at the Coventry Transport Museum in Coventry.

The models 5 HP with a single cylinder engine from Aster and 7 HP were on offer .
