The Roots Oil Motor and Motor Car Co. was a British automobile manufacturer based in London . 1896–1904 three- and four-wheeled vehicles with crude oil engines were built under the name Roots & Venables .

The first three-wheeled vehicle was presented in 1896. The following year came the four-wheeled petrocar with a 5-hp single-cylinder engine (1.3 l displacement). A number of other small vehicles followed by 1904.
