Century Engineering was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Ralph Jackson began 1885 in Altrincham in Cheshire with the production of bicycles . In 1899 he founded Century Engineering & Motor Co Limited to manufacture automobiles. In 1901 Jackson left the company and founded Eagle Engineering . Under the direction of Sydney Begbie, the company moved to Willesden near London, and in 1904 it was renamed Century Engineering Co Limited . From 1905 the brand name was New Century . Production ended in 1907.

The first model was the Century Tandem , a three-wheeler with the single wheel at the rear. It was initially equipped with a single-cylinder engine with 2.25 hp . In 1901 there were three different single-cylinder built-in engines to choose from: De Dion-Bouton with 3.5 HP, Aster and MMC with 5 HP each. From 1905 a two-cylinder engine was installed. In 1903, conventional four-wheeled cars appeared. The models 8 HP and 10 HP were equipped with two-cylinder engines of Aster, and the model 22 HP with a four-cylinder engine of Mutel . In 1906 the four-cylinder Princess model with 16 hp was added.

Three vehicles of this brand occasionally take part in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run .
