Brit Engineering Works , previously Hunt's Steam Sawmills & Carriage Accessories and EA Chard & Company , was a British manufacturer of marine engines and automobiles .

Company history

John Hunt had already experimented with machines in Bedminster . In 1902 he founded in Bridport , the company Hunt's Steam Sawmills & Carriage Accessories and began the production of automobiles. The brand name was Brit . Boat engines were added later. In 1903 the name was changed to EA Chard & Company. In 1905 automobile production ended. Since 1935 at the latest, the company name was Brit Engineering Works Ltd. The production of boat engines continued until 1963.

The first model was based on a model from Daimler. Hunt installed a self-developed two-cylinder engine and a larger radiator . He also changed the steering. Later he offered self-developed vehicles.
