Heron (make of car)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heron was a British automobile brand manufactured by Strode Engineering Works in Herne, Kent , from 1924 to 1926 . These were light vehicles.

In 1924 the Heron 8 hp was introduced. The small car had a water-cooled four-cylinder in-line engine with valves on the side and a displacement of 1.0 l. The two-seater roadster had a wheelbase of 2,134 mm and its body was made of plywood .

In 1925 the Heron 10.8 hp replaced this first model. This was a four-seater touring car with a 1.4-liter engine and a wheelbase of 2,438 mm. It too had a plywood body.

The problem was the poor durability of the wooden bodies. Rotting and termite damage killed the car faster than rust does nowadays on all-steel vehicles . In 1926 the brand disappeared from the market.
