The Hotel Pera Palas , also known in French as Pera Palace , in German Pera-Palast-Hotel , in Istanbul is one of the large railway hotels still in existence from the early days .

The Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits , operator of a number of European luxury trains, including the Orient-Express , made it a priority around 1900 to offer its clientele adequate accommodation at the destinations of their international connections. In the last two decades of the 19th century she therefore built up a hotel chain through a subsidiary. In addition to the Ghezirah Palace in Cairo , the Hôtel de la Plage in Ostend , the Hôtels Terminus in Bordeaux and Marseille and later the Grand Hôtel des Wagons-Lits in Beijing, this also included the 1892 by the Turkish-French architect Alexandre Vallaury (1850-1921 ) The luxury hotel Pera Palas, built in the style of historicism in the Pera European quarter of Istanbul . The house with a view of the Bosphorus , in which monarchs, heads of state and business captains stayed, has largely been preserved with its neo-rococo facade and interior fittings (the splendid facade is the eastern one with the main entrance and many stone balcony parapets).

In 1974, the hotel with its 115 rooms and 16 suites was carefully renovated.

In 2008 the hotel was closed to renovate the building. The reopening took place in September 2010. The international hotel chain Jumeirah Group operated the hotel from May 1, 2012 to the end of 2017 .

The Ataturk Room (No. 101) is now an exhibition room in honor of the founder of the state and faces southwest with a view of Eminönü (old part of Istanbul on the "Golden Horn").
