Percy Mayfield

Percy Mayfield (born August 12, 1920 in Minden , Louisiana , † August 11, 1984 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American rhythm and blues singer and songwriter .

Percy Mayfield began his musical career in Texas but moved to California during World War II . In 1947 he made his first recording, Two Years Of Torture .

Percy Mayfield became known to a wide audience in 1950 with his number 1 hit Please Send Me Someone To Love . In 1952 he had a serious car accident in which his face was disfigured. Nevertheless, he continued to write numerous successful songs, e.g. B. the classics Hit the Road Jack and At The Club for Ray Charles .

In 1987 Percy Mayfield was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame .
