Pere Borrell del Caso
Pere Borrell del Caso (born December 13, 1835 in Puigcerdà , † May 16, 1910 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish painter, draftsman and watercolorist.
He was associated with his birthplace in Cerdanya in the Pyrenees all his life. He kept his house there, although Barcelona was the center of his life. Borrell was a painter of nature, but also devoted himself to religious subjects under the influence of the Nazarenes . His best-known picture is Escapando de la critica ('Escape from Criticism') from 1874, an important example of the trompe-l'oeil .
Borrell has twice been offered the chairmanship of La Lotja , the most famous art school in Barcelona. He refused each time, preferring to run his own independent art academy. Many Spanish painters were influenced by him and his academy, for example Romà Ribera , Ricard Canals , Adrià Gual , Xavier Nogués and others.
