Perfect Photo Suite (PPS) is modular software from onOne for the development of RAW data from over two hundred cameras. Besides the proprietary RAW data, this RAW converter can also import other formats; for example JPEG , TIFF or PNG images. The development results can be exported in JPEG, TIFF, PNG and other formats.

In addition to stand-alone operation, PPS can be accessed from Adobe Photoshop , Adobe Photoshop Elements , Adobe Photoshop Lightroom or Apple Aperture , for example.

In its modules, PPS consistently relies on layer technology ( layers ) for combining photos or for superimposing a variety of manipulable, adapted presets for the current photo.

Perfect Photo Suite 9.5 has been replaced by ON1 Photo RAW .

On March 7, 2018, the current version was called ON1 Photo RAW 2018.1 .

Version 8

Most of the interface appears in German. The beginner is supported with German-language dialogue in difficult individual cases. For example, help is provided if no eyes and lips were recognized at the beginning of the beauty retouching .

Modules

Browse is the program's internal file manager for photos.

Layers allows you to work with layers. For example, the background can be replaced in a photo. Mask works with Layers . This means that the joining of two levels can be limited locally (to a painted area in the photo).

Enhance is prominent in each photo editing software development tool with such functions, such as brightness , contrast , color - and tone adjustments, sharpening et cetera.

Portrait is used for beauty retouching, B&W for black and white development and effects for processing with 23 possible filters. The latter can be stacked on layers. For example, an HDR look can be achieved or lens blur with a radial gradient can be simulated (for example, tourists can be shown blurred - i.e. largely unrecognizable - on a detailed city view).

Finally, Resize allows you to enlarge the photo with the Genuine Fractals tool or allows the so-called canvas printing - that is the pleasing border design with elements from the photo itself.

structure

In the hierarchy, the modules Browse and Layers are above the modules Enhance , Portrait , Effects , B&W , Mask and Resize . The program is always entered via the Browse module . After selecting a photo, one of the other modules can be called up from there. Normally, one of the called modules is finally exited with the Apply button and you go back to Browse (unless instructed otherwise) . There and also from Layers , i.e. at the top of the hierarchy, the Batch module can be called , for example using the File / Batch Processing command . For example, some export operations - such as converting images to another format - can be carried out in the batch.

Version 9

Version 9 was released on October 28, 2014. The Layers and Mask modules are merged into one Layers module . The noise reduction function has been integrated. In connection with working with layers for local image processing, the practical brush tools quick masking and refinement brush were added. They can be used to exclude an area (partial area) in the photo from processing. For example, in the Layers module, the sky can be substituted for a landscape image. Or in the Effects module , for example, the blossom of a plant macro photograph can be excluded from the Blur operation (cropping) using the same two tools. In addition to the unsharp operation , 24 other local image processing in Effects are possible (for example dynamic contrast, color enhancement, noise reduction, black and white, sharpening ). In the modules layer, Enhance and Resize was in cropping function comfortable -tool straightening implemented. Thus, the photo can be aligned interactively with a vertical or horizontal picture element (e.g. fence).

In version 9, PPS can adopt and use developments of photos from other programs. Calling up PPS from other programs for photo editing, as mentioned above in the article header, is recommended, for example, at the end of developing a photo in the following case. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 works without layers. With the Lightroom command Photo / Edit in the Develop module, all development settings are transferred to PPS. Then you can work with layers in PPS and finally you return to Lightroom with the finished photo.

Version 9.5

  • The on Browse / Edit achievable dialog preferences was, for example, the tab system expanded. It can be among others, the location of the working folder of Perfect Photo Suite change.
  • In particular, working in the Browse module is now associated with less waiting time than before. The processing speed has also been increased within some other algorithms - for example face recognition when entering the portrait module . In this module, the editing of the splines that may be required for the boundaries of the lips and eyes has been made easier: larger handles and more fluid movement of these tangible points are offered.
  • With the Browse / Album command , a photo collection with a thematic cross-sectional character - comparable to the photo collection in Lightroom - is created, edited or deleted. Albums - named collections of links on different photos in the computer, for example six albums with the names Beach , Cars , Macro , Sport , Travel , Family - are always present in the browse module.
  • In the Effects module , the Polygon Lasso tool (English: Line mask tool ) can be used to select a part of the photo that is delimited by a closed polygon. For example, only the sky can be included in the current processing on an architectural photo.
  • Using the Mask / Create Luminance Mask command - which can be called up in the Layers and Effects modules - you can now work with the luminance mask (German: Brightness mask) known from Adobe Photoshop . This allows you to limit editing to lighter areas of the photo.
