Peritrechus geniculatus is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .
features
The bugs are 5.0 to 5.9 millimeters long. Species of the genus Peritrechus have only one or two spurs on the thighs ( femora ) of the front legs. As with the genus Scolopostethus , they have a pale spot on both sides of the pronotum , which is partly not easy to see. The species is similar to Peritrechus nubilus , but its third antennae is equally thick or thicker than the first and the pronotum is more elongated. In addition, the pattern on the top of the body is usually a little less pronounced.
distribution and habitat
The species is distributed from the northern Mediterranean to southern Scandinavia and east to western Siberia, the Caucasus and the Caspian region. It is widespread and common in Central Europe and rises in the Alps to around 1000 meters above sea level. It is the most common type of the genus in Central Europe. In the UK, it is common in the south, especially the southeast. Open to partially shaded, dry to moderately moist areas are populated with vegetation of sweet grasses (Poaceae). Apparently there is no preference for the type of soil. However, they are most common on sandy soils.
Way of life
The animals live on the ground and on the plants. They are not tied to specific food crops, but it is believed that they require the presence of sweet grasses. The adults overwinter and become active again in spring.
