Lidia Perria

Lidia Perria (born February 5, 1950 in Rome ; † December 13, 2003 ibid) was an Italian palaeographer who mainly dealt with Greek minuscule fonts.

Life

Lidia Perria studied Classical Philology , Byzantine Studies and Paleography at the La Sapienza University in Rome . Her academic teachers included Enrica Follieri . After obtaining her doctorate in 1972, Perria continued her studies at the Sapienza Special School for Archivists and Librarians (until 1976). She remained connected to this institution all her life and worked there initially as an assistant, from 1979 as professore incaricato and from 1982 as associate professor for Greek palaeography. From 1994 to 1998 she was an associate professor in her subject at the University of Messina . On November 1, 1998, she returned to the Sapienza as a full professor of Greek palaeography. There she died on December 13, 2003 after a serious illness.

Lidia Perria published numerous studies on Greek minuscule writing in its historical development, especially on book fonts from the 11th and 12th centuries. For her teaching activities at the Universities of Messina and Rome, she wrote a handbook on the development of Greek writing styles from antiquity to the Renaissance , which was published posthumously in 2011 and translated into Spanish in 2018.
