The airport Peshawar ( English Peshawar International Airport ) is an international airport of Peshawar in Pakistan .

Location and directions

The airport is about three kilometers southwest of the city center. It is about 180 km from Islamabad . The airport can be reached by car within 10 minutes from the city center, including via the N5 road. The runway is crossed by a railway line.

Between 1981 and 1991, the airport was used as a starting point for cargo flights by the Bundeswehr and the Federal Intelligence Service in the course of Operation Sommerregen to Germany. These contained captured ultra-modern Soviet military equipment.

Incidents

According to ASN, there are no known accidents near the airport. In 1965, 22 people were killed in a Douglas C-47A crash en route to Chitral Airport . Two other incidents, involving aircraft taking off from Peshawar, occurred in 2001 and 2004, but there were no fatalities.

On June 24, 2014, Pakistan International Airlines Flight 756 was shot at while landing. One passenger was killed and three flight attendants were injured. The Airbus A310 aircraft that took off from Riyadh Airport was hit by six bullets, at least one of which hit an engine.
