Petar Aleksic

Petar Aleksić (born November 2, 1968 in Trebinje ) is a Bosnian / Swiss basketball coach and former player.

career

As a player, Aleksić was in the service of Yugoslav, Serbian, Croatia and Hungarian clubs before moving to Union Neuchâtel in Switzerland in 1999 . In 2001 he moved on to BBC Nyon . At the end of his playing days he was under contract with Leotar Trebinje in his hometown in the 2003/04 season. During his career he won the Serbian Cup with FMP Belgrade in 1996 and 1997, and in 2004 he won the Cup in Bosnia-Herzegovina with Trebinje.

In 2004 he took over his first coaching post at BBC Feldkirch and led the team in the 2004/05 game year to promotion from the second division to the Bundesliga. In the following year he reached sixth place with Feldkirch in the top division of Austria as a new league player.

In the 2006/07 season he was the coach of Union Neuchâtel in the second division of Switzerland, from 2007 to 2009 Aleksić worked under Luka Pavićević  as an assistant coach at the German Bundesliga club Alba Berlin and became German champions with the team in 2008 and German cup winners in 2009.

In the 2010/11 season he was again head coach in Neuchâtel in a second term, and from 2011 to 2013 he headed the BBC Monthey in the National League. In 2013 he took over the coaching position at Friborg Olympic (also national league). In 2016, he led Freiburg to the title of Swiss champions and to winning the national cup competition and following this success, for the second time since 2012, he was named Trainer of the Year in the National League by the internet service eurobasket.com . Between 2013 and 2016, in addition to his role in Friborg, Aleksić was also the head coach of the Swiss national team and looked after the “Nati” in 31 international matches. In the 2017/18 season, the Freiburg team won the Swiss championship, the national cup competition and the league cup under his leadership. In 2018/19 he led the team to win the championship and the cup competition again. In addition, his Freiburg team reached the group stage of the Champions League, which was seen as a great success for Swiss basketball.
