Petar Bogdan

Petar Bogdan Bakschew also Petar Bogdan ( Bulgarian Петър Богдан Бакшев ; * 1601 in Tschiprowzi , Ottoman Empire ; † 1674 ibid) was a Bulgarian Catholic bishop , historian and key figure in the Bulgarian liberation movement.

Live and act

Petar Bogdan reestablished the Bulgarian Catholic Eparchy and was one of the organizers of the Tschiprovzi uprising against Ottoman rule. He is probably the author of the first history of Bulgaria (Rome 1638, ital.).

The Bakshev Ridge on Rugged Island in Antarctica has been named after him since 2006
