Pete McArdle

Pete McArdle (actually Peter Joseph McArdle; born March 22, 1929 in Dundalk , † June 24, 1985 in New York City ) was an American long-distance runner of Irish origin.

He moved to the United States in 1956, and became a US citizen in 1962.

In the same year he won the Western Hemisphere Marathon . At the Pan American Games in São Paulo in 1963 , he won over 10,000 m and took bronze in the marathon .

In 1964 he qualified by another win at the Western Hemisphere Marathon for the Tokyo Olympics , in which he came in 23rd place.

He was twice US champion in the six miles or 10,000 m (1963, 1964) and in the 15 km road race (1958, 1962), three times each in the 25 km (1960, 1961, 1963) and in the 30 km road run (1960–1962) and once each in the 20 km road run (1961) and once in the cross country run (1962).
