Life

After completing his PhD , Vukusic turned his back not only on the world of higher education, but also on research as a whole: He first became a physics teacher at a secondary school. After about three years, however, he returned to science: his doctoral supervisor brought him to a project on butterflies as an unpaid postdoc . Vukusic initially had to earn his living by teaching. After just six months, however, Vukusic was able to apply for funding for three years from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

Vukusic then won a 5-year David Phillips Research Fellowship (2001-2006) at the BBSRC. In the meantime, he successfully applied for a position as lecturer for optics at his university (2003–2005); In 2005 he was promoted to Senior Lecturer and in 2008 to Associate Professor .
