Peter Becker Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Peter Becker Prize for Peace and Conflict Research was first awarded in 2005 by the Philipps University of Marburg for special achievements in peace research . With 10,000 euros in main prize money, it is one of the best endowed German social science awards. In addition, a prize for young talent will be awarded, endowed with 3000 euros. The cycle is every two years. The award ceremony of the Philipps University of Marburg takes place regularly in January of the following year.

Goal setting

The prize is donated by the Marburg lawyer and author Peter Becker (* 1941). He wants to see scientists honored who put their theories into practice. Active work should be done on civil peace processes, said Becker. "Peace needs experts" emphasized University President Volker Nienhaus in his speech at the ceremony on June 10, 2005: "The Peter Becker Prize is a sign of the university's commitment to civil law ".
