Ulrich Schneckener

Ulrich Schneckener (born January 13, 1968 ) is a German peace and conflict researcher . He is Professor of International Relations and Peace and Conflict Research at the Center for Democracy and Peace Research (ZeDF) at the University of Osnabrück . He has also been Chairman of the Board of the German Peace Research Foundation since April 2016 .

Life

After graduating from the Ernst Ludwig School in Bad Nauheim (Hessen) in 1987, Ulrich Schneckener completed his studies in political science, history and sociology at the universities of Mainz , Leipzig , London and Berlin from 1989 . In 1995 he graduated from the Free University of Berlin with a diploma in political science . In 2000 he was at the University of Bremen to Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

From January 1996–2002, Schneckener was a research assistant at the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies at the University of Bremen . He is a member of the editorial board of the journal Ethnopolitics (Routledge). He was the coordinator of the States at Risk working group of the Berlin Foundation for Science and Politics (SWP). From 2006 to 2009 he was head of the SWP's Global Issues research group .

Since September 1, 2009, Schneckener has succeeded Ingeborg Tömmel as Professor of International Relations and Peace and Conflict Research at the University of Osnabrück. From 2013 to 2015 he was dean of the social sciences department, from April 2015 to March 2016 he was dean of the cultural and social sciences department. Since March 2016 he has been chairman of the board of the German Foundation for Peace Research (DSF). He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research (PRIF), and has been Chairman of the Advisory Board since 2018. His research interests are international conflict management, state and peacebuilding, non-state violence, and terrorism and the fight against terrorism.
