Peter Christian Schlüschen Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Peter Christian Schlüschen Prize was awarded from 2005 to 2018 in memory of the sports photographer Peter Christian Schlüschen and was one of the most highly endowed prizes for sports photography in Germany.

background

Peter Schlüschen was born on February 21, 1980 in Trier . He died on May 1, 2004 in a traffic accident on the way from Bremen to Berlin , after photographing the Bundesliga match Werder Bremen against Hamburger SV in Bremen's Weserstadion as a photo journalist . The award is intended to motivate young sports photographers between the ages of 18 and 30 to pursue this profession and to offer them a platform to be seen. It was awarded from 2005 to 2017 by the Peter Christian Schlüschen Foundation , and since 2018 by the registered association for the promotion of art, cultural and sports photography in memory of Peter Christian Schlüschen .

competition

Participants between the ages of 18 and 30 could send in a work (a photo) for the main competition. The prize was awarded annually from 2005 to 2018. The winners were exhibited and awarded at the Art Week in Berlin - since 2014 at the Positions art fair . Before that, the award ceremony and the exhibition of the finalists took place as part of the Berlin List exhibition.

The prize was awarded by a jury that decided on the criteria of creativity, originality, composition, evidence of the times and persuasiveness. The 1st prize (5000 €), 2nd prize (3000 €) and 3rd prize (2000 €) were honored with money.

In 2019, the ongoing competition was canceled due to too few entries. Due to the decline in the number of participants in previous years, it was decided not to allow the competition to take place again.
