Peter-Torsten Schulz (born March 5, 1944 in Friedeck , Moravia ) is a German book and calendar artist, painter, poet, photographer and designer based in the Dutch Friesland and in Mülheim an der Ruhr . He is also known as Petoschu and the inventor of Ollen Hansen. He works in his "Atelier for Applied Art" in Mülheim-Saarn .

Live and act

Peter-Torsten Schulz was born as the son of the journalist RR Schulz and his wife Hildegard in what is now the Czech Republic, grew up in the Lüneburg Heath and Essen and came to Mülheim an der Ruhr at the age of 14, where he graduated from the state high school. In 1969 he married Christa Oehler, with whom he has two children.

During his graphic studies at the Folkwangschule Essen, Peter-Torsten Schulz published his first four volumes of poetry with drawings and poems as Petoschu in 1967/1968. Since 1969 he worked in the advertising team (Creative Group Peter Schulz) and organized parallel exhibitions with drawings, collages and sculptures. In 1974 he created the comic " Schindelschwinger or the fight for Flohheim" with the illustrator Michael Ryba , of which five albums were released.

In 1977 he had his first major book success with “Der Olle Hansen and his moods” at Dumont-Buchverlag Cologne, which was set to music by Salvatore Adamo, among others. This was followed by the Schindelschwinger stories as well as poems, calendars and books from the “Olle Hansen” series. His publisher, Ernst Brücher, became his friend and mentor. With his over 30 publications “from Hansen's house”, he undertook seven painting and book signing trips through 80 cities between 1978 and 1986. In 1977 he created his “Weatherproof Friends” under the motto “Vitamins for the Soul” in his studio: sculptures such as the storks “Georch and Georgine”, “Fliege Artuhr”, the “Hansen Hearts with Hand and Foot” and the “Shield pranks” The modern era". More than 100 calendars have been published by Dumont since 1982 and by TeNeues since 2003.

Motto of life

“The country needs bon vivants - against egoism and boredom.” The meaning of all artistic works by Peter-T. Schulz is the spread of the “Hansen's attitude to life”: having a sense of humor, seeing poetry, realizing fantasy and cultivating naturalness as a high art.

Helping Heart

Peter-Torsten Schulz supports non-profit organizations under this symbol. He has been a representative for UNICEF since 2008 . Since 2009 he has been working with friendly international aid organizations (e.g. Last Torres eV, Tschernobyl-Kinder eV) for his own project: "Pit's Project", the goal of which is to create a museum for naive art. For this he travels the world with his family, collects toys he made himself and lets children make his storks, Georch and Georgine. His theme is "street art for children".
