Peter and Paul Chapel (Menzlhof)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Roman Catholic Peter and Paul Chapel in the Menzlhof district of Kirchendemenreuth is located in the area of the Kirchendemenreuth branch , but is a private chapel owned by the Menzlhof.

history

The chapel was preceded by a building from the mid-19th century on the way from Kirchendemenreuth via Menzlhof to Wurz . For the co-owner Eva Bergler , who went to the chapel every day to pray, the way there was too difficult, especially in the winter months. Therefore the old chapel - a simple building without a tower - was demolished and rebuilt by Eva and Peter Bergler with today's chapel near the Menzlhof .

The plan for the new chapel comes from the Döltsch master mason Johann Frank and was built in Art Nouveau style by the builder Weidner from Schwand . On November 25, 1906, the chapel was inaugurated by the Altenstadt cooperator J. B. Hörmann . The building is a private chapel belonging to the Lorenz-Spörer families , the current owners of the Menzlhof.

Between 1997 and 2000 the chapel was completely renovated by the Spörer family in agreement with the State Office for Monument Preservation . Due to water damage, the entire plaster had to be replaced, the floor slabs were relocated, the roof structure was renewed and the tower was re-braided. On June 20, 2002, the day of Peter and Paul and the builder's name day, the chapel was consecrated by the Altenstadt pastor Grüner .

Every day in the chapel is rung by hand in prayer, in the event of death, the death bell rings . Occasionally devotions are also held.

Building description

The small chapel is a saddle roof building with a chancel closed on three sides. The hexagonal ridge turret has sound openings and a tent roof . The chapel was built in the neo-Romanesque style. On it is the year "1906", which indicates the time of completion. Today it lies between two mighty chestnut trees. A special feature of the chapel was that it could be heated: embers could be inserted into a wall opening on the south gable, which then heated part of the wall and thus the entire chapel.

Interior

Initially, there was a wooden altar , four figures of Christ , an image of the Virgin and two large candlesticks. The old altar was replaced by a granite slab altar during the last renovation and the figures were placed on stone consoles. There are also three wooden prayer chairs. In the south gable there is a wall niche with a sculpture of the Mother of God, a replica of the Tirschenreuth pilgrimage Madonna. A granite slab on the south gable contains the inscription Dedicated to Jesus Christ the Right Helper , which comes from the previous chapel. In the course of the renovation, a porcelain Madonna figure and a rosary, made by Willi Weidner from Denkreuther , were installed.
