Karl Peter Albert (born July 15, 1936 in Dresden ) is a German architect , painter and graphic artist .

Life

From 1950 onwards, Albert took drawing lessons from Etha Richter for several years as a teenager ; Paul Wilhelm instructed him in the art of watercolor painting , both techniques remained his artistic passions.

After graduating from the Kreuzschule , Albert studied architecture at the Technical University of Dresden from 1954 to 1960 under Horst Schubert , Heinrich Rettig , Oswin Hempel and Walter Hentschel , supported by Röcke in the art of freehand drawing and watercolor sketches. After completing his studies as a graduate engineer, he taught for five years as an assistant to Georg Nerlich and Ernst Alfred Mühler in the subjects of painting and graphics in the architecture department.

He later worked as an architect in Dresden until 2005, after which he continued as a visual artist. Albert has been married to the architect Reingard Albert (née Frönicke) since 1966. In April 2019, he donated 37 gouaches and oil paintings to the Technical University of Dresden, which were exhibited in the Rector's Office on Mommsenstrasse from June 12, 2019. Albert is an honorary member of the Künstlerbund Dresden.

Architecture
From 1965 he and Dieter Schölzel helped set up the branch of the Berlin Institute for Cultural Buildings (theaters, museums, libraries and cultural centers), in Dresden he concentrated on the reconstruction of the Semperoper . Further tasks up to 1995 were planning the reconstruction and use of the Dresden Palace , the Sempergalerie and the Elbschlösser , as well as after the success of the competition for the Taschenbergpalais , the development plan of the Elbe slope in Dresden-Loschwitz.

He also took part in national architectural competitions , e.g. B. for the Theater Erfurt , the Schauspielhaus Dresden , the Keppschloss Dresden, and in international architecture competitions, z. B. for the opera houses in Belgrade, Gothenburg and Paris and the National Library in Damascus. He participated in a joint competition design with the architects Horst Witter and Gunter Just for the planning of the Baghdad Congress Center.

From 1995 to 2005 he worked freelance with the architects Dieter Schölzel and Dieter Seidlitz. Albert was in charge of the renovation and interior renovation of the Dresden Kreuzkirche .

Graphics, watercolors, paintings
Peter Albert has been creating pen and pencil drawings of journeys in drawing books since 1955 , as well as more than a thousand watercolors created on site, primarily of landscapes and architecture from Italy, Portugal, France, Finland, Prague, the Meissen region, the Elbe, the island of Rügen and Saxon Switzerland. Between 1962 and 1963 he created his first geometric-constructive paintings in oil, which have shaped his artistic work ever since. Large-format geometric works followed in 1963, of which around 400 have been oil paintings to date.

Works by Peter Albert can be found in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden ( Galerie Neue Meister and in the Kupferstichkabinett Dresden ), in the Art Fund of the Free State of Saxony , in the Städtische Galerie Dresden , in the collections of the Technical University of Dresden , in the Foundation for Concrete Art Roland Phleps in Freiburg (Breisgau) and in private collections.
