Peter Baus (born April 21, 1949 in St. Ingbert ) is a German photo artist. Peter Baus lives and works in Remmesweiler near St. Wendel .

life and work

Peter Baus attended the basic apprenticeship with Oskar Holweck from 1968 to 1969 and from 1970 to 1972 he studied graphic design at the Werkkunstschule, today's HBK , in Saarbrücken.

From 1974 to 1975 he worked as a graphic designer in Tokyo .

He started working as a photographer in the 1970s. The first publications are thematic illustrated books with reference to the Saarland, such as the Saargau . The main theme of Peter Baus is the landscape. It is not understood as a picturesque or "beautiful" image, but as a reflection of states of the mind. That is why his landscapes are deserted.

His slide shows can be understood as a kind of performance, in which a multitude of "new" images are created through double projection and the transitions from one slide to the other. They are associated with music and text readings.

He works as a lecturer for various photo academies in Germany, France and Greece.

reception

"Peter Baus is a master in the selection of the picture detail. He often travels to the same place for his pictures. We, the viewers, are asked by his pictures to look at the world with more open eyes." Cornelieke Lagerwaard, Mia-Münster-Haus St. Wendel . "In the photos of Peter Baus, whom I call a landscape artist, motifs are shown as a section of the landscape (of reality) - but actually this section of the world cannot have come about without technical manipulation - but it is still a 'classic' Photography created by waiting, patience, and slowness. " Erwin Stegentritt: 'The Photography of Lies' in: Letters from the European Occident. "His motifs are scattered all over the world, but the moment in which they arise is sometimes very short. Peter Baus is waiting" for the great silence, "he says. Because the photographer takes the picture, he is the director of nature , not the other way around." Sabine Graf
