Peter Below (born December 7, 1942 ) is a former soccer goalkeeper who played in the GDR Oberliga at SC Neubrandenburg and Hansa Rostock .

After Below had been trained as a football goalkeeper at Motor Stralsund , he moved at the beginning of the football season 1962/63 at the age of 19 to BSG unit Greifswald , whose first men's team played in the second-rate GDR league . The 30-year-old former Oberliga goalkeeper from Empor Rostock Kurt Lippert was a regular player there. On September 23, 1962, the 5th game day of the GDR League, Below was called up in the Greifswald goal. With his 4th appearance on the 16th matchday, he replaced Lippert with 10 consecutive games as the goalkeeper. In the following season 1963/64 Below stood in 24 of 30 point games in Greifswalder Tor, before he moved to the Oberliga newcomer SC Neubrandenburg after another five missions at the beginning of the season 1964/65 in September 1964.

The Neubrandenburg team with their previous goalkeepers Gert Jüsgen and Uwe Bengs had already conceded 17 goals in the first six games and hoped for more stability in defense from Below, who had shown good performance in Greifswald. At first, Below actually gave cause for hope. After he had already played a few games in the Olympic Cup (bridging round because of the Olympic football tournament) for Neubrandenburg from October, the German Sportecho headlined after SC Neubrandenburg's 2-0 on November 1, 1964 at SC Cottbus "Below just held everything". Below played his first league game on November 15, 1964 in the encounter Empor Rostock - SCN (2-1). By the end of the year Below was in 20 league games in the Neubrandenburger Tor, but could not prevent his team from having the worst defense of all league teams with 58 goals and having to relegate back to the GDR league after only one season.

Below also stayed in the 1965/66 league season in Neubrandenburg, after which he moved to league competitor Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt for one season . After the end of the 1966/67 season Below returned to the league and took the position of 2nd goalkeeper behind Jürgen Heinsch at Hansa Rostock . There he came on September 17, 1969 for an international assignment in the 1st round in the trade fair cup against Panionios Athens (3-0) and 16 league appearances (according to other sources 12), before he ended his competitive sports career in 1974 at the age of 31 .
