Peter Berker

Peter Berker (* 1952 ) is a German qualified pedagogue , supervisor , social scientist and university lecturer in retirement. He was rector of the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia (KFH NW), from 2000 the Catholic University of Rhineland Westphalia (KatHo).

Life

Berker studied social pedagogy, journalism, sociology and psychology in Münster from 1972 to 1977 , graduating as a qualified pedagogue. This was followed by a doctoral degree (Dr. phil.) In educational sciences with the minor subjects sociology and journalism, which he completed in 1983 with a thesis on Christians Kold's adult education center . In addition, he continued his education in working with individuals and groups from 1978–1980, followed by a qualification in supervision from 1981–1983.

Peter Berker worked from 1976 to 1900 in open and association youth work, family education, home education, as well as in training and further education. From 1990 he took over the position of professor at the KFH NW, Dept. Münster. In addition to research and teaching, he took on the role of vice dean (deputy head of department) from 1993 to 1996 and that of dean (head of department) from 1996 to 2000. From 2000 to 2004 and from 2010 to 2016 he was rector of KFH NW.
