Roman Pencil Stein (born June 26, 1928 in Aschaffenburg ; † August 17, 2000 in Borkum ) was a German Jesuit and university professor . From 1975 to 1996 he was Professor of Education at the University of Philosophy in Munich .
Life
Pencil stone attended the humanistic high school in Aschaffenburg. During the Second World War he served as an air force helper in Hanau and Offenbach. In 1948 he graduated from high school and entered the Jesuit order in the same year. From 1951 to 1954 he studied philosophy in Pullach, then theology at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt. In 1960 he was ordained a priest. From 1962 he studied pedagogy, psychology and sociology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he received his doctorate in pedagogy in 1965 with a thesis on the subject of “The moral behavior of today's youth”. In the same year he became a member of the editorial team of " Voices of the Time ", which he remained until 1998.
From 1968 to 1973 he was Karl Rahner's personal advisor in Münster and Munich . In 1971 he came to the University of Philosophy in Munich, where he was appointed Associate Professor of Education in 1975.
In addition to pedagogy, from 1977 research on contemporary history became a new focus of his work. He began a comprehensive documentary about the resistance of the Jesuits against the National Socialism like Alfred Delp , Rupert Mayer and Augustin Rösch .

Shortly after his doctorate (1965), lead stone was considered one of the leading church youth educators. He published several writings on youth morality such as the sexual ethics of premarital life (1969), sex education between taboo and ideology (2nd edition 1972) and the lexicon of church youth work published together with Gertrud Casel in 1985 . Furthermore, he dealt with topics of pastoral care for leisure and tourism. After all, especially since the death of Ludwig Volk, there was an increasing concern to research the role of the Jesuit order and other orders in Germany during National Socialism. To this end, lead stone focused on the lives of individual, so far little researched figures such as Alfred Delp, Augustin Rösch and Rupert Mayer.
