Ludwig Volk

Ludwig Volk (born September 14, 1926 in Mömbris , † December 4, 1984 in Munich ) was a German Jesuit and historian .

Life

Volk, from the Catholic family of a railway official, attended elementary school in Mömbris and the grammar school in Aschaffenburg , did military service from 1943 to 1945 and passed the Abitur in 1946. On October 1, 1946, he joined the society in Pullach as a novice Jesu , studied philosophy there , interrupted by a prefecture at the Jesuit College St. Blasien , then theology at the University of Innsbruck , followed by a tertiary degree in Murcia, Spain . On July 31, 1956 people were in Munich by Cardinal Joseph Wendel for priests ordained . From 1958 to 1962 he studied history and English at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he passed the first state examination for high school teachers in 1962 . In 1964 he received his doctorate under Karl Bosl with the thesis The Bavarian Episcopate and National Socialism 1930-1934 . He then taught English and history at the Jesuit College St. Blasien for three years. In 1968, Volk was released from his order for the exclusive occupation with church contemporary history and in the same year he became a full-time employee of the commission for contemporary history founded in 1962 . Here he found his life's work and edited six basic source publications for the commission, accompanied by a large number of relevant essays.
