Career
Piper played from 1999 to 2002 for the Beatrice Eros in the National Women's Hockey League and won the NWHL Champions Cup three times in a row with the team . From there, the striker made it to the Canadian national team for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . During the tournament, she and the team won the gold medal. The Canadian then moved to Dartmouth College in the United States on a national level . In addition to studying sociology , she played for the college's ice hockey team in ECAC Hockey , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .
In the following five years to 2007, Piper completed four seasons at Dartmouth College and was nominated for the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2005. In her first season, she won the division championship with the team. Meanwhile, she had won the gold medal with the national team at the 2004 World Cup and a silver medal at the 2005 World Cup . At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , Piper had a second Olympic gold medal followed, in which the offensive player made a significant contribution with seven tournament goals and 15 scorer points .
After the attacker had to overcome a serious knee injury following the 2006 Winter Olympics, she missed the 2007 World Cup . For the world title fights in the following year , in which the runner-up title was again on the books, Piper made the jump back into the squad. Nationally she had lost the final of the Canadian Women's Hockey League with the Mississauga Chiefs in the same year . For the 2008/09 season, the striker joined the Calgary Oval X-Treme from the Western Women's Hockey League . Even with the X-Treme, she missed another national title win after a final defeat. She also lost her squad place for the 2009 World Cup .
For the 2009/10 season Piper received a place in the extended squad of the national team and ultimately won the third Olympic title at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . In her last international appearance at the 2011 World Cup , she won her third World Cup silver medal. The striker had already returned to the Canadian Women's Hockey League for the 2010/11 season, where she played for Brampton Thunder until she retired in the summer of 2013 . Even with the Thunder, she did not win another national title despite reaching the final series once.
Having won the three Olympic gold medals, Piper is one of the most successful Olympians in ice hockey. She is one of only eleven players - all of them Canadians - who have won three or more gold medals.
