The 2001/02 season was the fourth season of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), the top Canadian division in women's ice hockey at the time. The Beatrice Eros defeated the Brampton Thunder 3-2 after extra time in the championship final and thus secured their third championship title of the NWHL.

Attendees

The league started with eight participants: Beatrice Eros , Brampton Thunder , Mississauga Ice Bears and Telus Lightning (formerly Clearnet Lightning) continued to play in the Western Division . The Toronto Sting stopped playing before the season. In the Eastern Division played the Ottawa Raiders , Montréal Wingstar and the former Sainte-Julie Panthères , who were renamed Metropol Le Cheyenne and received new owners. The Laval Le Mistral also stopped the game. The Vancouver Griffins , founded in January 2000, were officially accepted into the league and divided into the new Pacific Division , but played in the South Coast Female League due to the enormous travel costs . The Griffins as well as the host Brampton Thunder were set for the final tournament.
