The 1998/1999 season was the first season of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) and the last of the Central Ontario Women's Hockey League , as the league was renamed during the season. The Bonaventure Wingstar secured the championship title of the Eastern Division, the Beatrice Eros that of the Western Division. The Brampton Thunder secured the Central Canadian Championship .

Attendees

The league started with eight participants, five more than the previous season of the COWHL: The Western Division consisted of the Beatrice Eros , Brampton Thunder , Mississauga Chiefs and the Scarborough Sting . In the newly founded Eastern Division, the teams with the Laval Le Mistral , NCCP Raiders , Montréal Jofa-Titan and the Bonaventure Wingstar played mainly teams from the province of Quebec . Thus, the league was expanded to the east of Canada and therefore renamed the National Women's Hockey League during the season .
