The Toronto Eros were a Canadian women's ice hockey team based in Toronto , Ontario , and played under various names in the Central Ontario Women's Hockey League from 1992 to 1998 and in the National Women's Hockey League from 1998 to 2007 . The Eros were founded as an amateur team in the late 1970s and over the years has grown into one of the most successful women's clubs in Canada. After the NWHL was dissolved in 2007, the Eros were one of the founding members of the Canadian Women's Hockey League as Mississauga Chiefs and played in it until it was dissolved in 2011.

In their history, the Eros ended the regular season many times as the team with the highest points. In addition, the Eros won the NWHL championship five times and the Canadian amateur championship, the Esso Women's Nationals, four times .

history

The Eros were founded in the 1970s as an amateur women's ice hockey team in Toronto. Between 1989 and 1994 the Eros won the regional championship of the Province of Ontario six times in a row, as well as the Esso Women's Nationals in 1991 and 1993. In 1992, the Eros were also included in the regional championship, the Central Ontario Women's Hockey League , and won their championship at least in the years 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1998.

In 1993 the long-time head coach Ken Dufton founded the Junior Eros, a junior team for the women's team, which has won several regional junior championship titles.

With the conversion of the COWHL into the National Women's Hockey League in February 1999, one of the most successful times of the Eros began, as they won the championship of this new league four times by 2007. During this time they played under the name Beatrice Eros due to sponsorship by the food manufacturer Beatrice . In addition, the Eros reached three other national championship titles at the Esso Women's Nationals (2000, 2004 and 2005) during this period.

After the 2006/07 season , the NWHL stopped playing and was replaced by the newly formed Canadian Women's Hockey League . The team last played as Mississauga Eros merged with the Oakville Ice , who were already called Mississauga Chiefs at the beginning of their history , to the Mississauga Chiefs and twice (2008 and 2009) reached the play-off finals for the Clarkson Cup . In 2010 the team returned to the Toronto Eros name while the youth teams continued to play as chiefs .

After the 2010/11 season , the Mississauga Chiefs stopped playing. Many of the Chiefs' players switched to the newly formed Toronto Furies franchise .
