The 2014/15 season was the eighth season of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), the top Canadian division in women's ice hockey . The Boston Blades won the regular season of the CWHL and then won the Clarkson Cup for the second time in the club's history .

CWHL Draft

On August 19, 2014, the CWHL carried out a draft for female players for the fifth time . The draft was conducted during a conference call. In the first place, Laura Fortino was selected by the Brampton Thunder . In total, the 5 teams secured the rights to 58 players in 19 rounds.

The regular season began on October 18, 2014 and ended on March 1, 2015. The four teams with the highest points qualified for the final tournament of the Clarkson Cup .

CWHL All-Star Game

The first All-Star Game of the NWHL took place on December 13, 2014 at the Air Canada Center , the home ground of the Toronto Maple Leafs , in Toronto . The encounter was completed over three thirds of 15 minutes. There was also a subsequent skills competition .

The teams were partly put together based on a fantasy draft by the players Charline Labonté and Jessica Campbell , the other players per team were decided by lot.

Including the captains, each team consisted of 20 players.

The Team Red defeated the Team White with 3: 2 (0: 1, 0: 1, 3: 0) in front of 6,800 spectators. As most valuable player was Rebecca Johnston excellent.

The Clarkson Cup 2015 was the sixth edition of the competition of the same name . Only four representatives of the Canadian Women's Hockey League took part in the final tournament . The tournament was from 4 to 7 March 2015 again in Markham Centennial Center in Markham province Ontario held.

The Boston Blades won the second Clarkson Cup in their club history with a 3-2 win after overtime over the Stars de Montréal .

mode

In contrast to previous years, the four participants in the final tournament did not have a preliminary round, but a knockout round in best-of-three mode to determine the two finalists. The final was decided in a single game.

The Austrian Janine Weber scored the decisive goal for the Boston Blades in the third minute of extra time . Weber was the first non-American player to score the winning goal in a Clarkson Cup final. The Hockey Hall of Fame then included their ice hockey stick in the exhibition.
