The 2011/12 season was the fifth season of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), the top Canadian division in women's ice hockey . The Stars de Montréal won the regular season of the CWHL and thus qualified for the final tournament for the Clarkson Cup , which they also won (for the second time in a row).
Attendees
In the run-up to the 2011/12 season, plans were announced to unite the CWHL with the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL) to establish a nationwide league. The regional ice hockey federation of the province of Alberta (however) supported the formation of a new team, which was created as a merger of the former WWHL participants Edmonton Chimos and Strathmore Rockies to represent the province in the now national Canadian Women's Hockey League . Ultimately, this step led to the dissolution of the WWHL, as the two remaining WWHL teams - the Manitoba Maple Leafs and the Minnesota Whitecaps - saw no basis for the continuation of regular game operations.
Initially, the new CWHL participant, known as Team Alberta or Alberta Honeybadgers , did not have a permanent home venue, but toured the province of Alberta with his home games. Due to the great distance to the other locations of the CWHL, the Alberta team completed only part of the scheduled games in the 2011/12 season, the table was adjusted accordingly.
Another new team were the Toronto Furies , who replaced the Toronto Eros .
A total of six teams took part in the fifth edition of the CWHL, three from the province of Ontario and one each from Alberta , Québec and the USA .

CWHL Draft
On July 21, 2011, the CWHL conducted a second draft for players to standardize the level of play of the teams and to give the newly formed team from Alberta the opportunity to fill the roster. Therefore, the Alberta team in particular made extensive use of the possibilities of the draft. The event was held at the Delta Meadowvale Resort and Conference Center in Mississauga . In the first place, Meghan Agosta was selected by the Stars de Montréal , and the six teams secured the rights to 112 players.
