The 2004/05 season was the seventh season of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), the top Canadian division in women's ice hockey at the time. The Toronto Eros defeated the Montréal Axion 5: 4 after extra time in the championship final and thus secured their fourth championship title in the NWHL.

Attendees

In July 2004, the two Western Division teams, the Calgary Oval X-Treme and Edmonton Chimos , left the league and founded the Western Women's Hockey League on the west coast of Canada . As a result, the NWHL shrank to seven (active) teams that competed against each other in two divisions: The Central Division continued to consist of the Toronto Eros , Brampton Thunder , Oakville Ice and the Telus Lightning . In the Eastern Division played again the Ottawa Raiders , Montréal Axion and the Avalanche du Québec .

Before the season, the management of the league tried to increase its attractiveness and status by signing US national players.

The Montréal Axion signed Gina Kingsbury , among others, in the summer of 2004 , while the Avalanche du Québec strengthened itself with Kim St-Pierre .
