Frederick Richard Maunsell

Sir Frederick Richard Maunsell , KCB ( September 4, 1828 - October 29, 1916 ) was a British general .

Life

Maunsell was the third of six children of Reverend Daniel Henry Maunsell and his wife Louisa Jane Richardson and an older brother of General John Richardson Maunsell. After attending King Edward's School in Birmingham and Grosvenor College in Bath, he completed military training at Addiscombe Military Seminary . After completing his training, he took part in the Second Sikh War between the last sovereign Indian state of Punjab and the British East India Company from April 1848 to March 1849 , which ended in the defeat of Punjab. As a result, the Sikh Empire of Punjab was annexed to the British Empire . He later took part as an officer in the Indian uprising of 1857 and the fighting in the former princely state of Avadh . At times he was aide-de-camp of the Viceroy of India and was beaten on June 22, 1897 to Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB), whereby he led the name suffix "Sir". He was also Colonel of the 1st King George's Own Sappers and Miners and General of the Royal Engineers .

His marriage to Maria Alexandrina Veléz in 1862 resulted in seven children, including Brigadier General Frederick Guy Maunsell.
