Peter Berlit

Peter Berlit (born November 20, 1950 in Darmstadt ) is a German neurologist .

Live and act

Berlit studied medicine at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (1969–1973) and the Philipps-Universität Marburg (1973–1976). In 1976 he received his doctorate in Marburg . He completed his specialist training in neurology at the Heidelberg University Hospital by 1984 . His habilitation took place in 1985. Berlit has been an adjunct professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg since 1989 . From 1985 to 1992 he was the senior physician in charge and temporarily acting head of the neurological clinic at Mannheim University Hospital . In 1990 Berlit was visiting professor at the Department of Rheumatology at the University of California, San Diego . He also has a teaching position at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

From May 1, 1992 to the end of 2017, he was chief physician at the neurological clinic with clinical neurophysiology at the Alfried Krupp hospital in Essen . In January 2018 he became the first general secretary of the German Society for Neurology .

Berlit is the author of several textbooks and numerous contributions to specialist journals. His scientific focus is on cerebral vasculitis , Moyamoya disease, neuroimmunology and strokes in young adults.
