Peter Cappel
Peter Cappel (* 1687 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ); † April 1756 there ) was Mayor of Elberfeld.
Cappel was born as the only child of the businessman Abraham Cappel (1656–1709) and his wife Anna Margareta Bredt (1647–1730). On August 9, 1724, he married Helena Teschemacher (1668–1750) from Barmen, with whom he had no children.
He was proposed for the first time as mayor in 1733, but was only elected at the second attempt in 1734. The following year he was appointed city judge on a rotating basis. In 1732, 1736, 1737, 1741 and 1742 Cappel was a member of the council before he became mayor of Elberfeld for the second time in 1743. Accordingly, in 1744 he was city judge again.
Through his mother's first marriage to Johannes von Carnap (1643–1679), Peter Cappel was a stepbrother of Anton Siebel (1669–1736), the mayor from 1722.
