Peter Dixon

Peter Bishop Dixon (* 1946 ) is an Australian economist and university professor .

Career, research and teaching

Dixon studied economics at Monash University , which he left with a bachelor's degree in 1967 . He then succeeded at Harvard University , where he completed his Ph.D. -Degree.

First Dixon then worked for the International Monetary Fund and the Reserve Bank of Australia . In 1974 he returned to Monash University, where he dealt with general equilibrium theory under Alan Powell . The following year he started the IMPACT project, in which various computer-aided models were used to research the theory. In 1978 Dixon accepted a call from La Trobe University , after a visiting professorship at Harvard, he moved to the University of Melbourne in 1984 . There he continued the modeling work of the IMPACT project at the Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research (IAESR). In 1991 he returned to Monash University, where he established the Australian Center for Research on General Equilibrium Theory at the Center of Policy Studies .

Dixon's main focus is on researching general equilibrium theory, under his direction the ORANI model and its dynamic successor, the MONASH model, were developed. His work was incorporated into the USAGE model, among others, the United States International Trade Commission , the United States Department of Homeland Security and the United States Department of Agriculture is used.
