Peter Dombrowski

Life

Dombrowski studied from 1946 with Helmut Hasse , Erhard Schmidt and Willi Rinow at the Humboldt University Berlin (diploma 1952) and followed Rinow to the University of Greifswald , where he was his assistant from 1950 to 1955. In 1955 he left the GDR for political reasons and became a research assistant at the University of Bonn with Ernst Peschl . He received his doctorate in 1957 in Bonn under Wolfgang Krull ( on the substitution rule for n-dimensional Lebesgue integrals in real number spaces and manifolds ). In Bonn he also studied with Friedrich Hirzebruch , was his first assistant from 1957 and later a close colleague. In 1959/60 and 1960/61 he was a Moore instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . In 1962 he completed his habilitation and then became a lecturer in Bonn. From 1966 he was a full professor at the University of Cologne .

1970 to 1983 he was editor of the Mathematische Annalen .

He should not be confused with Peter J. Dombrowski (* 1962), professor at the Naval War College in Newport (Rhode Island) .
