Peter Drach the Middle (* 1455 in Speyer ; † 1504 ) was a printer .

Life

His father of the same name († around 1481) founded the first printing company in his hometown in 1471, was a council member in 1477/78 and had a publishing house in Worms .

Peter took over the printing company after the death of his father.

Since 1481 he was a council member. According to the council book, he was also: 1491 as arithmetic master and master builder, 1492 as master builder and rent lord, 1493 as arithmetic master, master builder and one of the four judges, 1495 again as master builder and also in 1498 as rent master and 1501 as arithmetic master and keeper of the keys to the council's boxes .

Success may have made him haughty. As a result of a process over a debt from 1496, he was no longer elected to the council in 1504. After he died shortly afterwards, the printing company was passed on to his eldest son, the court schoolmaster Peter Drach (1500–1530). This barely issued any prints. His second son, Johann, became a licentiate and in 1518 a councilor and the third, Thomas, devoted himself to the clergy.

In Speyer, Peter-Drach-Straße is named after him; because of the similar names of father and son, both also printer, he is sometimes also called Peter Drach the Middle .
