Peter Clay Frusetta (born July 6, 1932 in Tres Pinos , California ) is a former American politician. He was a member of the California State Assembly for six years .

Before entering politics, Frusetta was a full-time cattle breeder on his ranch in Tres Pinos. In 1992 the Republican ran for the first time for the California House of Representatives, but was defeated by Rusty Areias , the then incumbent representative of the 28th electoral district. Two years later, Frusetta managed a narrow victory over Democratic candidate Lily Cervantes by 0.4 percentage points . With that a long democratic district fell back to the Republicans. Frusetta managed to be re-elected in 1996 and 1998: in 1996 he prevailed again with a small lead over Cervantes (1.6 percentage points), in 1998 he won clearly against Alan Styles , mayor of Salinas . A further candidacy was not possible due to a term limit.

After three legislative terms, Peter Frusetta, also known as " Cowboy in the Capitol " because of his distinctive cowboy hat , left the State Assembly. In 2002, his attempt to enter the California Senate failed in the primary election .
