Peter Graham (composer, 1952)

Peter Graham (pseudonym for Jaroslav Šťastný-Pokorný ; born July 1, 1952 in Brno ) is a Czech composer.

Graham studied organ with Josef Pukl and composition with Bohuslav Řehoř at the conservatory in his hometown and continued his composition studies with Alois Piňos at the Janáček Music Academy (JAMU) . He then worked as a piano accompanist at the conservatory and theater, was music director for radio and music editor for television, employee of the Czech Music Fund and music teacher. Since 1999 he has been teaching music theory and composition at JAMU.

Graham composed orchestral and vocal works, music for piano and other solo instruments, and chamber music. In 1993 he won third prize at the Musica Iudaica Festival with his chamber cantata Der Erste after Franz Kafka . His first string quartet was performed by the Arditti Quartet at the 2009 Contempuls Festival for New Music .
