Peter Graham RA (born March 13, 1836 in Edinburgh , † October 18, 1921 ) was a Scottish landscape painter .

Life

Peter Graham studied portrait painting at the Trustees' Academy Edinburgh under Robert Scott Lauder until 1859 . Then he lived in his hometown for a few years and turned to landscape painting during this time . In 1866 he finally moved to London , where he carried out many assignments for Queen Victoria . Candidate since 1877, he became a full member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1881 .

Graham preferred the romantic scenery of the Scottish highlands, often with cattle scenery, as well as views of rocky coasts in cloudy, foggy weather. His impressive pictures enjoyed great popularity and found many interested parties; They experienced additional distribution as printed graphic products. Graham attached great importance to detail in his depictions and even kept some Highland cattle on the property of his country house in Buckinghamshire , which he used as models. One of his most famous works was the painting " Flood in the Highlands", with which he was represented for the first time in 1866 at an exhibition at the Royal Academy.
