Peter H. Meurer

Peter H. Meurer (born April 10, 1951 in Horst ; † March 11, 2020 ) was a German cartography historian.

Life

Peter Heinrich Meurer was born in Horst. He received his first training at the local elementary school and from 1961 he attended the humanistic district high school in Heinsberg , where he graduated from high school in 1971. From 1972 to 1977 he completed a master’s degree at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen , majoring in geography and history of architecture, and from 1981 he studied history of science at the University of Bonn . On July 10, 1991, Peter H. Meurer received his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin with his thesis Fontes Cartographici Orteliani .

In 1985 he was awarded the Rheinlandtaler for his voluntary work in local research, which is awarded to people who have made a special contribution to the cultural development of the Rhineland .

The directory of his more than 200 publications will be published together with an obituary in issue 61 (2020) of the specialist card history journal Cartographica Helvetica .
