Peter Haggett
Peter Haggett (born January 24, 1933 ) is a British anthropogeographer . He is considered one of the most important representatives of locational and spatial analysis . The professor at the University of Bristol is the author and editor of over 30 works, in particular on urban geography , regional geography and the geographical analysis of the spread of infectious diseases, a branch of medical geography .
After studying at Cambridge University and first positions at the Universities of London and Cambridge, he has taught at Bristol University since 1966, where he was Vice Chancellor from 1984 to 1985.
Haggett has received numerous honors from UK and international universities for his academic merits and has been named a CBE and FBA . He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Universities of York (Canada; 1983), Bristol (1986), Durham (1989), Copenhagen (1999), Helsinki (2003) and West England (2004) and the University College London (2008). He is also a recipient of the Patron's Medal (1986), the Prix Vautrin Lud (1991) and the Anders Retzius Medal (1994) as well as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2006), the National Academy of Sciences (2008) and the Academia Europaea (founding member 1988).
