His doctoral thesis was written by Anton Neuhäusler , full professor of philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, on the subject: The analogy of mystical consciousness and spiritual drug experiences and their ethical aspects (Munich 1977), published under the title: Mysticism and drug mysticism. A critical comparison (Düsseldorf, Patmos Verlag 1979). From 1972 to 1973 he was a lecturer at the College of Commerce at the University of Edinburgh / Great Britain and from 1979 to 1982 professor at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo , Uruguay / South America . Since 1982 he has been a lecturer in adult education and the author of books and textbooks.

Heigl developed a didactic of rhetoric that is based on linguistic and psychological knowledge. The method of clearly defined, small and systematic steps has largely established itself in adult education and in-company training. - As a classical philologist, he advocates a general “Basic Classical Languages” course, a short introduction to the two classical languages Latin and Greek, with a focus on vocabulary work and etymology. This corresponds more to today's cultural diversity in Europe than extensive Latin learning. - In philosophical works he tries to build a bridge between the positions of Albert Schweitzer , who advocates Christianity without dogmas in his philosophy of religion, and Albert Einstein and his so-called "Cosmic Religion" / "Cosmic Religion".
